The academic program, with the help of staff and volunteer tutors and educators, will provide members with a quiet and consistent location to regularly complete daily homework assignments and projects as well as an area to prepare for examinations.
Tutors function as partners, mentors, and role models to provide help as needed, ultimately striving to build self reliance and lifelong successful learning skills. Students will partake in both group sessions and individualized help. Emphasis on a particular trouble-areas will be student specific. Since the computer is rapidly becoming an essential tool for education and growth, members are offered regular instruction and practice on donated computers.
As participants progress through middle and high school, with their basic academic foundation in place, academic tutors will also do standardized test preparation, for both state-tests and high school and college admissions tests.
Our objective is to improve academic performance, enhance study skills, foster a love of learning, and ultimately help the students prepare for and be placed in a college.
